Furniture designer Matthias Pliessnig works primarily with steamed bent-wood strips. The bench is entirely built with steam bent White Oak and was commissioned for a private residence. Inspired by boatbuilding techniques and classic modernist furniture, Pliessnig uses 3-D modeling software to sketch curves, which he then handcrafts into sensuous forms that cradle the body.
